Major infrastructure map of Marion CountyMarion County's prospects for economic growth are high because of the tremendous amount of infrastructure in place throughout the county.

HIGHWAYS - Corridor "X" (US 78), a major 4-lane highway built to interstate standards, is complete through 80% of Marion County providing easy access to Memphis and markets west. The 4-lane construction is planned to be complete in late 2004 establishing 4-lane service from Atlanta to Memphis.
Corridor "V" (US 24), a major 4?lane highway north of Marion County is complete from Russellville to Decatur (Interstate 65) providing access to the northeast US.

ELECTRICAL - Primary electrical service is supplied through Alabama Power Company's 161-kV transmission system looped through Marion County with dual supply sources from the east and south.
Both Alabama Power and Tombigbee Electric Cooperative distribute power throughout the county at 44-kV and 12-kV.

TVA has a 500-kV transmission line constructed diagonally across the county entering just west of the town of Bear Creek, passing just east of Hamilton and exiting the county about 9-miles east of the Alabama/Mississippi state line.

NATURAL GAS - Northwest Alabama Gas Company supplies natural gas through a network of gas lines in the county. This supplier has a substantial advantage over many other gas suppliers because of an underground pumped storage facility near Marion County. This facility allows the company to maintain lower gas prices and greater reliability by storing large quantities (8 billion cubic feet of planned capacity) of gas when prices are cheaper. The company also has a major 10-inch line entering the county on the southwest, passing east of Hamilton and exiting the county to the north.

Tennessee Gas Company has 30" and 36" lines passing through the county just west of Hamilton. These lines supply 1.9 billion cubic feet of gas each day to the northeast United States and can be tapped for use by industry.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS - CenturyTel is the supplier of telecommunications services and has fiber optic cables that completely loop inside the county making available fiber connected redundant telecommunications service at any location.

RAIL SERVICE - Burlington-Northern provides rail service in south Marion County and Norfolk-Southern rail service is available in northeast Marion County through the town of Bear Creek.
