Marion County Transportation Infrastructure
HIGHWAYS - Marion County is strategically
located to provide companies easy 4-lane highway access to markets
in the north, east and west. US 78 is a major 4-lane highway now
complete from the east side of Marion County to Memphis. Construction
is projected to be complete to allow 4-lane access from Memphis
to Atlanta by 2004 and designation as an interstate by 2006.
To the north, 4-lane construction on ARC Corridor "V"
is complete from Russellville to Interstate 65 at Decatur. This
highway provides 4-lane access to the North and East US.
US Highway 43 is a major north-south 4-lane highway proposed from
Florence to Mobile, which has been sanctioned by Governor Riley
and Alabama's Congressional delegation. The east/west route limits
have been generally established and engineering and design work
is underway. This highway is expected be located near the center
of Marion County.

and Port of Itawamba are only 15 miles from Marion County.
This Waterway is 300-feet wide, 9-feet deep and forms a 234-mile
long transportation artery connecting west central Alabama and northeastern
Mississippi with the Gulf of Mexico and the Tennessee River system.
Made up of a series of ten locks, it connects this part of the nation
with the existing 16,000 mile inland waterway system and shortens
