WORKFORCE availability for Marion County

Marion County’s Unemployment is low, but with just Marion and the surrounding counties of Franklin, Winston, Walker, Fayette and Lamar the region has a 20,578-strong available labor pool that includes 19,300 underemployed workers who are looking for better jobs. The underemployed are willing to commute farther and longer. For the one-way commute, 43 percent are prepared for 20 or more minutes longer and 59 percent will go 20 or more extra miles.

 

           

 

 

 

Marion County is also included as one of the 37-counties participating in the $15 m WIRED Grant Initiative (Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development) covering 18-counties in West Alabama and 19- counties in east Alabama.  Through this program a vast amount of information is being collected on the existing workforce skills and needs in these counties and strategies are being developed to provide training to fill gaps skill gaps.
